Southaven police celebrate Sergeant Jonathan Ellis’ retirement
The Southaven Police Department celebrated the retirement of Sergeant Jonathan Ellis at a gathering attended by his family, friends and coworkers, according to a department post.
Ellis graduated from the Police Academy at the top of his class and served in Patrol, Traffic, SWAT, SID, Training, as a patrol sergeant and in Narcotics.
During his career, Ellis served as second-in-command of the SWAT team, a SWAT instructor, sniper and breach team leader. The department said he was involved in hundreds of felony arrests, including the apprehension and prosecution of dangerous suspects through high-risk search warrants.
His work also contributed to the seizure of hundreds of thousands of dollars in narcotics, property and currency. The department said he helped investigate a drug trafficking organization that led to the first narcotics-related RICO case in Southaven history.
The department said Ellis’ teaching and commitment to fellow officers affected hundreds of law enforcement professionals across Mississippi. It credited him with making a difference in the Southaven community and in the lives of colleagues he served alongside.
