New Albany Main Street Association warns of scam and phishing emails

The New Albany Main Street Association is urging local businesses and community members to use extra caution when receiving emails, warning that scam and phishing messages can appear to come from familiar businesses, organizations, co-workers or other contacts.

The association advised recipients to be cautious about emails requesting money or payments, changes to payment or banking information, clicks on unfamiliar links or attachments, or passwords, account information and other personal details.

If an email seems unusual or unexpected, the association said people should not reply to it for verification. Instead, they should contact the person or business directly through a phone number or other contact method they already know and trust.

The association also recommended reviewing email security, using strong and unique passwords, and enabling two-factor authentication when available.
