Jackson police, NOBLE partner to provide child identification kits

The Jackson Police Department is partnering with NOBLE, the National Order of Black Law Enforcement Executive, to provide child identification kits to residents of Jackson, Mississippi.

The kits will be distributed during National Night Out and will also be available at each police precinct, COPS meetings and community meetings, according to the department.

The kits are designed to help parents and guardians keep key identifying information about their children readily available. They include an identification card for physical descriptions and other details, an inkless system for recording fingerprints, a section for storing a DNA sample and instructions for family emergency preparedness.

Parents and guardians will complete and store the kits at home. The department said the information and fingerprints are not uploaded to a government or police database. If a child goes missing, parents can provide the physical kit and its verified DNA and fingerprint information to law enforcement.
