Oxford teams complete child passenger safety certification course

Local teams in Oxford identified a need for certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians after a baby fair earlier this year. In response, instructors from the Mississippi State Department of Health and Safe Kids Worldwide traveled to Oxford this week to lead a four-day certification course for local first responders and health care partners.

The training concluded with a free community car seat check event at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Certified technicians from the Oxford Police Department, Oxford Fire Department, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and hospital staff inspected car seat installations, answered questions and assisted parents.

Baptist Memorial Hospital hosted the event. The City of Oxford also credited the Mississippi State Department of Health, Safe Kids Worldwide and local first responders who completed the certification course.
