Cleveland fire department promotes safe battery charging at local schools

The Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department is working with the National Fire Protection Association to support Fire Prevention Week at local schools in Cleveland, Mississippi.

This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” teaches students to make safe choices when recharging devices. Phones, tablets, laptops, tools, toys, e-bikes and scooters can use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that may overheat, start a fire or explode if damaged or charged improperly.

The department also spoke with Junior Fire Marshals about recognizing a smoke alarm and responding by getting low and going to the nearest exit. More information about lithium-ion battery safety is available at fpw.org.
