Sheriff’s Office warns against discharging firearms from bridges
The Sheriff’s Office said it has received multiple complaints about people firing guns from bridges within its county, calling the behavior reckless and dangerous.
The office said the actions put motorists, boaters, property owners and others at serious risk and that it has zero tolerance for such conduct. The post noted Mississippi law prohibits discharging firearms from public roads and bridges.
Pursuant to Mississippi Code § 97-15-13, the Sheriff’s Office said anyone found unlawfully discharging a firearm from a bridge or public roadway may face criminal charges. It urged residents who witness the activity not to approach those involved.
The post asked witnesses to report incidents immediately by calling 662-624-3085 and to provide as much information as possible, including location, vehicle description, license plate number if safely obtainable, and direction of travel. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
