Facebook warns Mississippi residents not to leave children, pets in hot cars
A Facebook post warned Mississippi residents Thursday that summer has arrived and temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously fast, urging people to take simple precautions to prevent heat-related harm.
The post used the slogan “Stop. Look. Lock.” and advised: “Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a vehicle. A simple check can save a life.” It included the hashtags #HeatstrokePrevention, #StopLookLock and #Mississippi.
Heat inside a closed vehicle can create life-threatening conditions for people and animals, and public safety campaigns routinely stress the importance of checking the back seat before leaving a vehicle. The notice reiterated common safety guidance aimed at reducing instances of heatstroke and other heat-related emergencies during warm months.
Residents are encouraged to take the post’s warning seriously and to check their vehicles each time they leave them, especially when transporting children, pets or adults who may need assistance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
