Nighttime roadwork begins June 1 on North Second Street, Highway 145

Beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, roadway work will begin on North Second Street/Chambers to South Second Street/Cedar Drive, with operations taking place nightly between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the police department said in a Facebook post.

The post said milling and paving operations will also occur on Highway 145 and that the project is expected to last three to four weeks. Motorists should expect possible delays and remain alert for workers and equipment, the department said.

Milling and paving are common road maintenance activities: milling removes the top layer of degraded pavement and paving lays a new surface to improve driving conditions and extend the life of the roadway. Nighttime work is often scheduled to reduce daytime traffic impacts but can require lane closures, detours and reduced speeds.

The police department asked drivers to use extreme caution while traveling through the work zones and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation as crews improve local roadways. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
