William Carey men’s swim and dive team wins Magnolia Invite

William Carey University’s men’s swim and dive team opened the fall portion of its season with a first-place finish at the Magnolia Invite hosted by Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi.

The Crusaders began with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay by Lucca De Moraes, Hunter Boudreau, Nedas Giedraitis and Janos Szabo. William Carey also placed fourth and fifth in the event with two additional teams.

Miguel Vieira won the 1,000-yard freestyle, and Braedan Jacobs finished third. De Moraes was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.87, while Boudreau won the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.58. Yusuf Balaban won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:55, and Giedraitis was third.

William Carey swept the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle, with Szabo first, Maciej Leszczynski second and Blaise Boyd third. Szabo also won the 100-yard freestyle, while De Moraes won the 200-yard backstroke. Boudreau won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:08, followed by Alexander Grenardo in second.

Jacobs and Vieira finished first and second in the 500-yard freestyle, respectively. Leszczynski won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.77, and Yaseen Abdelgawad and Balaban took first and second in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Crusaders placed three teams among the top five in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Szabo, Boyd, De Moraes and Leszczynski finished second in 1:26; teams led by Blake Talbert and Josiah Blankenship placed fourth and fifth.

William Carey is scheduled to return to competition Friday, October 23, at the Biloxi Natatorium, with competition set to begin at 1 p.m.
