Toppers sweep Crowley’s Ridge in doubleheader

Blue Mountain Christian swept Crowley’s Ridge in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, winning the opener 11-3 and the nightcap 14-2, the school’s athletics department reported.

Crowley’s Ridge took an early 3-0 lead in the first game, but Blue Mountain Christian answered with a four-run bottom of the first keyed by aggressive baserunning and extra-base hits that shifted momentum. The Toppers added runs steadily and held on for the 11-3 victory, with Neely Cooper providing steady work on the mound, the department said.

In the second game, Crowley’s Ridge again struck first with two early runs before the Toppers answered with a multi-run surge that put the game out of reach by the third inning. Blue Mountain Christian continued to produce extra-base hits and insurance runs, closing the nightcap 14-2. Jana Shaw worked efficiently in the circle, keeping Crowley’s Ridge off balance, the school said.

The athletics department said the doubleheader sweep highlighted the team’s depth, opportunistic hitting and aggressive baserunning. Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to play Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
