Toppers rally past No. 2 GGC in comeback win

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian rallied from an early deficit Friday to beat No. 2 GGC 6-5 at the BMCU Sportsplex, the Toppers’ athletics department said.

GGC opened with a four-run first inning, but Blue Mountain Christian answered in the second and continued chipping away. After GGC added a run in the third, the Toppers produced a multi-run inning to keep the game close, and a solo homer in the fifth pulled them within one.

The Toppers evened the score in the sixth and pushed across the decisive run in the seventh. Blue Mountain Christian pitching limited GGC after the opening frame, and the bullpen stabilized the game long enough for the offense to complete the comeback.

Offensively, Cody Presley had four hits, including multiple extra-base hits, and drove in a run. Jake Meilstrup had three hits, scored twice and hit a solo home run. Ross Polizzi delivered a two-RBI double, and Jarret Morris and Garret Lance each added an RBI.

Christian Manness earned the win, throwing eight innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out seven. Blue Mountain Christian will play Crowley’s Ridge College on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
