Pete Golding named Bear Bryant Awards National Coach of the Week

Ole Miss football coach Pete Golding was named the Bear Bryant Awards National Coach of the Week after the Rebels defeated No. 7 LSU 32-24 in Oxford.

Ole Miss took an early lead on a field goal by Lucas Carneiro and a rushing touchdown by Kewan Lacy, going up 10-0 near the end of the first quarter. Trinidad Chambliss later connected with Deuce Alexander for a touchdown, giving the Rebels a 24-7 halftime lead.

LSU cut the deficit to three points in the third quarter and tied the game 24-24 early in the fourth. Ole Miss answered with Chambliss' 14-yard rushing touchdown and a two-point conversion to take an eight-point lead.

LSU reached the red zone with less than two minutes remaining, but Kam Franklin tipped a pass that Jaylon Braxton intercepted in the end zone on fourth down. The play preserved the victory before a Vaught-Hemingway Stadium record crowd of 70,033, according to Ole Miss Athletics.

The victory moved Ole Miss to 3-0 under Golding, with earlier wins over No. 24 Louisville and Charlotte. The Rebels were subsequently ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll and are scheduled to play No. 21 Florida in Gainesville on Saturday, September 26, at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
