Mississippi State plans cowbell world-record attempt during Missouri game

Mississippi State fans will attempt to set a world record for cowbells ringing simultaneously Saturday night at Davis Wade Stadium during the Bulldogs’ top-25 game against Missouri. Cowbells will be counted as fans enter the stadium and again at a designated point during the game.

The event comes as Mississippi State enters the matchup ranked No. 24 in the country by the Associated Press. It will be the first game at Davis Wade Stadium between two top-25 teams since 2017.

Coach Jeff Lebby said he expects a sold-out crowd and a highly charged atmosphere at the stadium. “I'm expecting a sold-out crowd that's as volatile as there is in all of college football,” Lebby said. “I would expect Davis Wade to be as good [of an environment] as there is or better than anywhere in the country.”

The Bulldogs opened the season with 762 yards of offense, the most in a single game in program history, during a 62-13 victory over ULM. Mississippi State then beat Minnesota 38-13 on the road before rallying from a 16-0 deficit to defeat South Carolina 41-34 in its Southeastern Conference opener.

Tickets were described as going fast, and fans were urged to wear white and participate in the cowbell-ringing event.
