Jackson State quarterback Jared Lockhart named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week

Jackson State sophomore quarterback Jared Lockhart was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to a 66-14 victory over Edward Waters at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Lockhart set career highs with 388 passing yards and four touchdown passes and was selected as the game’s offensive MVP. He completed 17 of 25 passes without an interception and also scored a rushing touchdown.

His touchdown passes went to four different receivers as Jackson State scored 38 unanswered points in the first half and built a 38-0 halftime lead. The Tigers finished with 704 yards of total offense in front of 16,726 fans.

Lockhart leads the SWAC with 610 passing yards and five touchdowns and ranks No. 8 in the Football Championship Subdivision in passing yards.

Jackson State is off this week and will return to action Sept. 19 against Tuskegee in the W.C. Gorden Classic.
