Buddy Stephens’ lawyer calls firing a ‘grave disservice’
A lawyer for Buddy Stephens said his firing was a “grave disservice” to Mississippi’s public service and football community, while asserting that Stephens’ recent comments about the playoff system were protected by the First Amendment.
The statement credited Stephens with building a legacy that includes five national championships. It said his contributions to the athletes, programs and communities he served should not be overlooked.
The lawyer’s statement said Stephens intends to do everything possible to rectify what it called a wrong.
