Brewton-Parker wins doubleheader against Blue Mountain Christian

Brewton-Parker Christian University completed a sweep of Blue Mountain Christian on Friday, winning 7-1 and 17-8 in Mount Vernon, Georgia, to open a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference series, Blue Mountain Christian said.

In the opener, Brewton-Parker scored four runs in the bottom of the first to seize early momentum and added a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Blue Mountain Christian got on the board in the sixth when Jacob Bryant hit a solo home run, but Brewton-Parker held on for the 7-1 victory, the school reported.

Game two began with Blue Mountain Christian taking a 1-0 lead on a Ross Polizzi sacrifice fly, but Brewton-Parker built an 8-1 advantage through three innings. The Toppers rallied, cutting the deficit on a Yaidel Perez sacrifice fly and two runs that scored on a Brewton-Parker fielding error, and later homers by Bryant and Perez narrowed the margin to 9-8 after an RBI double from Polizzi.

Brewton-Parker answered with an eight-run bottom of the eighth, including a three-run homer by Fred Diaz, to push the final to 17-8. Blue Mountain Christian noted Bryant homered in both games, Perez added a homer and other run production, and Polizzi recorded both a sacrifice fly and an RBI double. The series concludes Saturday in Mount Vernon with a noon first pitch. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
