Two juveniles charged after vehicle break-in attempt in Starkville

Starkville police have charged two 17-year-old males following a vehicle break-in investigation on Helen Circle, officials said Monday.

At about 7:30 a.m. Monday, Oktibbeha County E-911 received reports of individuals pulling on vehicle door handles in the area. Police responded and located three juveniles at an apartment complex on Lynn Lane around 10:12 a.m., according to authorities.

Two of the juveniles face charges. One was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and felony marijuana possession. The other was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, carrying a handgun as a minor, and disorderly conduct. Both were taken to a juvenile detention center.

The Starkville Police Department urges residents to lock vehicle doors, remove valuables, and keep firearms inside homes to reduce crimes of opportunity. Authorities encourage anyone with information to call the police department, Crime Stoppers, or submit anonymous tips online. Rewards may be available.
