Firefighters Contain Forest Fire Near Deer Camp in Rankin County

Rankin County firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to a forest fire near Clara Foote Road, authorities said.

The fire, which burned less than 20 acres initially, was threatening a nearby deer camp with a camper and ATV storage area, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.

First responders used multiple fire trucks and equipment from the Mississippi Forestry Commission to contain the blaze. By late afternoon, the fire was contained, with about 60 acres burned, but it was not fully under control, officials said.

No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported, the sheriff’s office added.
