Two dead in New Year’s weekend crashes

Two people died in separate traffic accidents over the New Year’s Holiday Traffic Enforcement Period, according to information received by the Mississippi Highway Patrol on Tuesday.  

The fatal crashes took place in Neshoba and Yalobusha counties. MHP reports a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe ran off the road about 10 a.m. New Year’s morning on Highway 482 in Neshoba County. 

Nakeya Amos, an unrestrained passenger in the vehicle driven by Breanna Mingo, age 21 of Philadelphia, Mississippi, received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.. The vehicle overturned several times when it left the roadway while traveling westbound at the time. 

The second fatal crash happened on Monday, Jan. 2, at about 12:20 p.m., on I-55 in Yalobusha County.  According to MHP, a 2017 Dodge Charger driven by Glen E. Bess, age 42 of Waynesville, Missouri, collided with the rear of a 2011 Jeep Laredo, driven by 75-year-old Dennis L. Mudbone of Memphis, causing the Laredo to cross the median and collide with a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 19-year-old James I. Inman of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and a 2013 Nissan Rogue.

MHP said Mudbone received fatal injuries from the crash.  Eli K. Mcintyre, age 19, a passenger in the Nissan of Boswell, Oklahoma, received moderate injuries  from the crash and was transported to a local hospital.  

Both crashes remain under investigation with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. 

During the New Year’s Weekend, which started on Friday, Dec. 30, 2021, at  6 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 8,037 citations, made 164 arrests for  impaired driving, and investigated 203 crashes resulting in 54 injuries with two fatal crashes and two deaths.
