MDOT reports progress on District 5 projects and urges work-zone caution

Crews have made steady progress on Mississippi Department of Transportation projects in District 5, with several projects nearing completion, according to Commissioner Willie Simmons, chairman of the Mississippi Transportation Commission. The update includes work described as The Big Fix in Hinds and Rankin counties, along with bridge replacements, overlays and highway expansions.

Simmons said more major work is coming and urged drivers to remain vigilant in and around work zones. He advised motorists to slow down, eliminate distractions such as cell phones and stay alert for roadside personnel working on the state’s infrastructure.

The update covers MDOT’s District 5, which spans Hinds, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Madison, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Rankin and Scott counties.
