Army selects Camp Shelby for streamlined military testing by private companies

The United States Army has selected Camp Shelby as one of five premier military test ranges where private companies will receive streamlined access for internal research and development.

The initiative is intended to speed development of advanced technologies and put improved capabilities into the hands of American warfighters faster. Companies will be able to conduct their own research, development and testing in realistic, specialized military environments.

The technologies covered include drones, counter-drone systems, long-range fires and low-cost interceptors. The access will also be available to non-traditional defense companies, including those that may not have previously worked with the federal government.

After testing and evaluating their products, companies will have data to support pitches to the Department of War, DHS and other agencies. If companies secure contracts, Mississippi will help them identify manufacturing sites, according to the announcement.

The announcement invited companies developing technology intended to make service members safer, more effective or more capable to innovate at Camp Shelby and explore opportunities with the Mississippi National Guard and Mississippi.
