Reeves, Presley announce latest campaign financial reports
In the battle for dollars to fuel campaigns, the two main combatants for the Governor’s office in Mississippi came out with their latest financial fundraising reports.
Gov. Tate Reeves announced Monday another strong month of fundraising in June. During the 30-day period, Reeves brought in over $1 million, bringing cash on hand to over $9.6 million.
“Gov. Reeves continues to see fundraising success thanks to his strong record delivering positive results for all Mississippians,” Elliott Husbands, campaign manager for the 2023 election said in a news release. “From bringing thousands of high-paying jobs to championing nation-leading education gains to securing historic capital investment, Gov. Reeves’ first term has been marked by decisive wins for Mississippi.”
Gov. Reeves said he was honored by the support he has received.
“We’re delivering education results that lead the nation, growing our economy by bringing in more, high-paying jobs, and developing the best workforce around – Mississippians are eager to keep this momentum going,” said Reeves.
Meanwhile, the campaign for his Democratic challenger Brandon Presley said over $500,000 was raised during the month of June, nearly $200,000 more than Jim Hood raised in his 2019 campaign against Reeves. The campaign closed out the fundraising period with over $1.85 million cash on hand, $400,000 more than Hood had in 2019.
Presley for Governor’s fundraising haul was fueled by small-dollar donations, with 91 percent of contributions $200 or less and over 2,300 total donors, with over 1,100 new donors.
“Our campaign continues to reach people from all over Mississippi who know that Brandon Presley is the right choice to clean up Tate Reeves’ corruption, cut taxes for working families, and strengthen our healthcare system,” said Ron Owens, Brandon Presley for Mississippi Campaign Manager in a news release. “Tate Reeves continues to prioritize his highest donors over working Mississippians – even during devastating tornadoes – but these record-breaking numbers show that people know Brandon will be the type of leader who will put Mississippians first.”
For historical comparison, the Presley campaign said it had raised significantly more than Hood, who reported $330,000 in contributions for the same period in election year 2019.
