Olive Branch officials recognize Canine Companions, service dog Lief the Fifth

Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams and the Board of Aldermen recognized Canine Companions and Lief the Fifth during a Board of Aldermen meeting held during National Service Dog Month.

Lief and his handler received a proclamation honoring the work Canine Companions does throughout the Mid-South, according to the city’s announcement.

National Service Dog Month is celebrated every September to honor service dogs and the organizations that train them. Canine Companions provides service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities, as well as facility dogs for professionals in health care, criminal justice and educational settings.

The announcement said about 70 million Americans live with a disability, while 16,000 benefit from assistance provided by task-trained service dogs.
