Tupelo man sentenced to 60 years in 2021 triple manslaughter case

TUPELO, Miss. — Taquon Garth pleaded guilty May 1 to three counts of manslaughter in a July 24, 2021, shooting that left Jessica Pannell, Robben Wilson and Norahs Coleman dead, the First Circuit Court District said in a press release.

Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims accepted the guilty pleas and sentenced Garth to the maximum of 20 years for each count, the release said. The three sentences were ordered to run consecutively for a total of 60 years to be served in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Assistant District Attorney Josh Wise prosecuted the case on behalf of the state, the release said. Jason D. Herring, district attorney for the First Circuit Court District, thanked the Tupelo Police Department and Detective Tyler Cook for their work on the investigation and expressed appreciation for the victims’ families.

The district attorney’s office handles felony prosecutions in the region. The sentencing concludes the criminal case tied to the 2021 shooting, according to the release. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
