Starkville police celebrate D.A.R.E. graduates at West Elementary

The Starkville Police Department celebrates a new class of D.A.R.E. graduates at West Elementary School, the department said. The department said the graduates are fifth-grade students who successfully completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program and committed to making safe, healthy choices.

The department invited the public to join the celebration and recognize the students’ completion of the program, which it said marks an important milestone in the children’s development.

D.A.R.E. is a school-based prevention program typically led by law enforcement officers that teaches students about resisting drugs, making responsible decisions and choosing healthy behaviors. The program has been used in schools nationwide as part of community policing and youth outreach efforts.

The Starkville Police Department said the graduation recognizes both the students’ work and the partnership between schools and law enforcement in promoting safety and prevention. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
