Shelter finds dog abandoned in kennel during storm near Corinth
CORINTH, Mississippi — Shelter staff found a dog abandoned in a kennel on the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter road after severe weather, the shelter said.
Staff said they discovered the dog Tuesday morning near the stop sign after she had been left outside overnight during the storm. The animal was cold, soaked and frightened when staff brought her to the shelter, officials said.
In a public message, the shelter said abandoning animals in that way is not safe or humane and urged people who need to surrender a pet to contact the shelter for help. Shelter officials acknowledged that some people face difficult situations and may need assistance rehoming an animal. While they may not always be able to take in every animal immediately, staff said they try to offer guidance, resources and safer options.
For now, the dog is warm, safe and receiving care, and staff said they plan to share updates on her condition. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
