Pedestrian dies in late-night crash on Mississippi 57 in Gautier
GAUTIER, Miss. — A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle late Tuesday night on Mississippi 57 near Robinson Still Road, the Gautier Police Department said. Officers responded to the crash at about 11 p.m. on April 28, police said.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling northbound when it struck a person who was in the roadway, the department said. Emergency personnel with Acadian Ambulance Service attempted lifesaving measures, but the pedestrian died from injuries suffered in the crash, police said.
Authorities described the victim as a white male believed to be between 50 and 60 years old. The Jackson County Coroner’s Office is working to positively identify the man and notify his next of kin, police said.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, the Gautier Police Department said. The case remains under active investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 228-497-2486. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
