Officers find Kevin Clay Adams dead in horse trailer
SMITH COUNTY, Mississippi — Smith County law enforcement officers, working with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, located Kevin Clay Adams inside an enclosed horse trailer and found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Sheriff Joel Houston said in a Facebook post.
Officers established a perimeter and initiated verbal contact with Adams. During those efforts, a single gunshot was heard from inside the trailer, and Adams was later found deceased, the sheriff’s office said. The family has been notified and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was contacted to process the scene.
Sheriff Joel Houston expressed appreciation to local, state and federal law enforcement partners and thanked citizens for tips and cooperation. He also thanked the Polkville Volunteer Fire Department for allowing its station to be used as a command post and Smith County Emergency Management for its assistance.
In his post, Houston asked for prayers for the Adams family and for law enforcement personnel involved. “We are especially thankful to our Lord for watching over our two deputies who were involved in the initial incident, the wife and two children who were present, and for keeping every officer involved in this operation safe,” he wrote.
