Naked man dies after violent encounter during Biloxi flooding
BILOXI, Mississippi — A naked man died early Sunday after a violent encounter with a neighbor at a home in the Woolmarket area of Biloxi amid heavy flooding, police said. Rescue crews located the man’s body on shore at about 2 a.m. Sunday, May 24, following a search by rescue boats, Biloxi police said.
Biloxi Police Department dispatchers received a 911 call around 8 p.m. Saturday, May 23, from the 11000 block of Woolmarket Lake Road, police said. The caller, who was away from the home, told dispatchers they had seen a naked white man emerge from the Biloxi River on a Ring doorbell camera, walk up the residence stairs and onto the porch. Police said multiple people in the area also called to report a naked man.
The homeowner asked a next-door neighbor to check on the property, and the neighbor spoke with the man on the porch and asked whether he needed help, investigators said. Police said the man suddenly charged the neighbor and struck him. The neighbor fired multiple shots, striking the man, but the man continued the attack, disarmed the neighbor and walked back into the floodwaters.
Officers said heavy flooding hampered response and that some personnel had to be transported by boat. When officers arrived they found the neighbor with facial lacerations and bruising. Investigators reviewed security footage that police said captured the incident. The identity of the deceased has not been released. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
