Booneville man receives four-year sentence in child exploitation case
OXFORD — Joshua Honeycutt, 42, of Booneville was sentenced May 21 to 48 months in federal prison for possessing thousands of files of child sexual abuse material, federal authorities said.
U.S. District Judge Michael Mills ordered that Honeycutt serve 48 months, be placed on 10 years of supervised release, register as a sex offender and pay $107,000 in restitution to victims, officials said.
According to court documents, investigators found more than 4,000 videos and 17,000 images depicting children under 12 in sexually explicit conduct. Authorities said many of the victims shown were between 5 and 10 years old.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office and the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department. U.S. Attorney Scott Leary said the sentence removes a dangerous offender from the public and stressed the importance of restitution for victims. FBI Jackson Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff said the agency remains committed to combating child exploitation and protecting children from abuse. Attorney General Lynn Fitch called child sexual abuse “a horrific crime” that causes lasting trauma when images and videos continue to circulate.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Parker S. King prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating online child exploitation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
