Jackson police are investigating a homicide in the 5800 block of Ridgewood Road after officers found the body of an unidentified Black male inside an apartment early Sunday, the Jackson Police Department said.
Homicide detectives located the body at approximately 2:30 a.m., the department said. The investigation revealed two unidentified Black males wearing ski masks had broken into the apartment when the owner fired a weapon, striking one of them. The suspect, still unidentified, succumbed to his injuries and the coroner was called to the scene.
The Jackson Police Department said the victim was transported to Jackson Police Department headquarters to be interviewed. The department did not immediately release the identities of those involved or additional details.
The Jackson Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the city. The department said this is the fourth homicide of the year. The case remains under active investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact police. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
