Hinds County command staff complete CIT leadership training

Hinds County Sheriff’s Office command staff attended and completed a two-day Crisis Intervention Team Leadership Development for Law Enforcement Executives course last week at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Academy, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

The training was provided by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and is designed to strengthen leaders’ ability to guide and support deputies who respond to people experiencing mental illness, the post said.

Crisis Intervention Team, or CIT, programs generally focus on improving safety, de-escalation and connections to treatment and community services. The sheriff’s office said the leadership course will help enhance officer preparedness and promote compassionate, informed responses across Hinds County.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said it appreciates the command staff’s commitment to professional growth and to advancing service standards. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
