City of Pearl holds Amnesty Day for residents with unpaid fines
PEARL — The City of Pearl will hold an Amnesty Day on Saturday, Feb. 28, offering residents with outstanding fines the opportunity to resolve contempt warrants without additional penalties, officials announced. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pearl Court Records, 2561 Old Brandon Road.
Officials said people who appear in person can have contempt warrants tied to unpaid fines removed and any additional contempt fees forgiven. The initiative is intended to help residents avoid escalating costs and legal consequences tied to unresolved violations, officials said.
“This is not a trick or a ploy to bring people in and place them in custody,” officials said during a press conference announcing the event. “We want residents who believe they may have outstanding fines to come in and take care of them.” Even those unable to pay the full amount are encouraged to attend and speak with court staff about available options.
Resolving warrants during Amnesty Day could prevent more serious consequences later, such as arrest during a traffic stop, vehicle towing and significantly higher costs, officials said. Accepted forms of payment include cash, cashier’s checks, money orders and credit or debit cards; personal checks and peer-to-peer payment services such as Cash App, Venmo and Apple Pay will not be accepted. Residents seeking additional information can contact Pearl Court Records at 601-932-3581.
Contempt warrants are typically issued when people fail to pay court-ordered fines or fail to comply with court orders. Cities and courts sometimes hold amnesty days to encourage voluntary resolution and reduce barriers to compliance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
