UMMC transitions former Greenwood Leflore Hospital to maintain Delta care
JACKSON, Miss. — The University of Mississippi Medical Center said in a Facebook post that its transition of the former Greenwood Leflore Hospital will keep care available close to home for residents of the Mississippi Delta while connecting them to the resources of the state’s only academic medical center.
The post emphasized that health care access is vital for every community, particularly in the Delta, where rural populations often face greater barriers to specialty care. UMMC said patients will gain access to its specialists, expertise and institutional resources as part of the transition.
UMMC, based in Jackson, serves as Mississippi’s academic medical center, providing clinical care, medical education and research. Integrating local hospitals with an academic center can broaden specialty services, referral networks and training opportunities for clinicians, officials and health experts say.
The medical center provided a link to a fuller account of the change on its website. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
