99-year-old Catherine Powell Klipple leaves $1 million to UMMC MIND Center

Catherine Powell Klipple, 99, left a planned $1 million gift to the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s MIND Center, bringing fundraising for a centralized building to $10 million, UMMC said.

The medical center said the gift will help advance vital neurodegenerative research. The MIND Center has focused fundraising efforts on a centralized facility intended to support research and collaboration, UMMC said.

UMMC described Klipple’s legacy as defined by curiosity, compassion and service. Philanthropic gifts of this size can help research centers attract partners, expand programs and accelerate studies, though UMMC has not released further details about how the planned gift will be allocated.

The announcement underscores the role private donors play in supporting medical research and infrastructure. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
