UMMC students learn residency placements on Match Day

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s School of Medicine announced on its Facebook page that Match Day 2026 is underway, with students set to learn where they will train for residency. The school said the ceremony will be livestreamed at 1 p.m. on YouTube.

Match Day is the annual event, administered by the National Resident Matching Program, when graduating medical students across the country learn the residency programs that have accepted them. The event marks a formal transition from student to physician when graduates move from medical school into supervised postgraduate training.

For medical schools such as the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Match Day is a milestone that highlights the end of medical education and the start of clinical practice. Families, faculty and peers traditionally gather to celebrate, and many schools livestream the ceremonies so loved ones can watch remotely.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
