Training drill planned at Osyka Elementary School

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Magnolia Police Department, assisting law enforcement agencies and area fire departments are scheduled to conduct an active shooter and intruder training drill at Osyka Elementary School in Osyka, according to a public notice from Sheriff Bryant Wally Jones and the sheriff’s office.

The exercise is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 a.m. Residents may see an increased presence of law enforcement officers, fire and emergency vehicles, and a low-flying helicopter in the area. The sheriff’s office said the drill is expected to last about one hour, give or take a few minutes, and asked residents not to be alarmed.

The office said it will continue working with law enforcement, fire departments, schools and other agencies throughout Pike County on training and preparation intended to support the safety and security of children, school employees and communities.
