Chief RaShall Brackney inspires Upward Bound students at Tougaloo
More than 170 Upward Bound Program students at Tougaloo College recently heard Chief RaShall Brackney share her story of perseverance and triumph, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The department said Brackney spoke to students about overcoming adversity and unlocking personal potential. The event was part of outreach efforts that connect public officials with youth preparing for higher education.
Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program that helps low-income and first-generation high school students prepare for college through tutoring, mentoring and campus activities. Tougaloo College, a historically Black college in Mississippi, often hosts such programs to expose students to college life and resources.
Officials and educators say appearances by community leaders can inspire students, provide role models and reinforce messages about resilience and opportunity. The Jackson Police Department did not provide additional details about the visit in its post.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
