Three charged in Meridian homicide; bond denied

The Meridian Police Department announced formal charges against Tynejaris Finley, Kortland Browning and Jaquevius Lott in the shooting death of Dearius Ruffin on Oct. 1 in the 4500 block of Manning Street. Each was charged with capital murder and armed robbery, and bond was denied.

Browning was taken into custody less than four hours after the shooting. After an extensive investigation, officers executed two additional arrest warrants Wednesday, Oct. 7, and took Finley and Lott into custody.

The department said its Criminal Investigation Division, SWAT team and patrol officers worked to identify, locate and apprehend the suspects. “Our responsibility is to pursue the facts, hold those responsible accountable, and stand with the families affected by violent crime,” Assistant Chief Dareall Thompson said.

All three individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
