Meridian police announce five arrests involving drugs, fleeing and firearm charge
The Meridian Police Department announced five arrests resulting from investigations, traffic stops and safety checkpoints in Meridian, including charges involving felony fleeing, controlled substances and firearm possession.
On Aug. 10, officers responding to a disturbance located Jonathan Price near 45th Avenue and 9th Street. Police said Price refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit that ended near 20th Street and 7th Avenue, where he was taken into custody. He was charged with felony fleeing.
On Aug. 24, officers stopped a vehicle at 5th Street and 54th Avenue. During the investigation, officers reported finding a felony amount of methamphetamine in a bag belonging to passenger James Agent. Agent was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
On Sept. 8, Meridian Police Department Gang Unit detectives stopped a vehicle on Highway 19 North and contacted Whitney Brown. Detectives reported finding a felony amount of methamphetamine during a probable-cause search. Brown was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
On Sept. 9, Gang Unit, Traffic and Patrol officers were conducting a safety checkpoint at Royal Road and 38th Avenue when Tobias Windham ran from the scene. Officers apprehended him and reported finding a felony amount of oxycodone pills during a search after the arrest. Windham was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
Also on Sept. 9, officers at a safety checkpoint at Highway 80 and 69th Avenue contacted Demetrius Clay. Officers reported finding a firearm during a probable-cause search and identified Clay as a convicted felon. He was arrested and charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
Assistant Chief Dareall Thompson said, “I'm incredibly proud of the men and women of the Meridian Police Department. Our officers, detectives and specialized units are working around the clock to solve cases, take dangerous individuals and illegal drugs off our streets, and protect our children, neighborhoods and businesses. They put their lives on the line for this community, and they deserve the credit for these results. We take this responsibility seriously, and we will continue doing the work every day to keep Meridian safe.”
The department said all individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
