DeSoto County hazard mitigation survey reopened through Sept. 15, 2026

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency District 1 Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Survey has been reopened through Sept. 15, 2026, giving DeSoto County residents an opportunity to provide input on local hazards, vulnerable areas and how they receive emergency information.

The survey asks residents which hazards pose the greatest risk to their communities, including tornadoes, flooding, power outages and cyber disruptions. It is available through SurveyMonkey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GTP8BY6.

“The people who live in these communities know where the problems are,” Supervisor Lee Caldwell said. “That kind of local knowledge is important when you are trying to plan ahead.”

Supervisor Mark Gardner said the January 2026 winter storm demonstrated the importance of preparation, coordination and communication. “The January winter storm gave us a good look at what worked and what did not,” Gardner said.

DeSoto County is also home to Mississippi Task Force One, whose members train to respond to some of the most challenging emergency situations in the state. Board President Jessie Medlin said, “They are among the best of the best”.
