May 12-13 Severe Weather Update

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is working with counties to assess damage from the severe weather from May 12-13th. There are reports of homes damaged, trees down, roads blocked, and power outages due to the storms.

One death (Wilkinson County) and one injury (Lawrence County) have been reported to MEMA.

Initial damage assessments are underway. The following is prelminary and will change through the assessment process. These counties report some damage to homes ranging from affected to destroyed.

  • Jefferson Davis– 5 homes
  • Lawrence – 1 injury
  • Lincoln – 3 homes
  • Smith– 1 home, 5 businesses
  • Wilkinson – 1 Death

It’s understood that there is more damage than reported so far. Counties continue to assess the extent of damage and report it to the state.

MEMA encourages residents who’ve sustained damage after a severe weather event to do the following:

  • File an insurance claim.
  • Take photos of the damage to the home.
  • Report damage to county/MEMA via the self-report tool.
