Live Grenade Found in Rankin County Home Prompts Bomb Squad Response

FLORENCE, Miss. – A live grenade discovered at a residence in the Cleary community of Rankin County prompted a response from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Authorities were called to a home on Margaret Lane after a grenade was found among the belongings of a now-deceased veteran. Upon inspection, officials confirmed the device was a functional post-World War II era grenade.

EOD personnel secured the explosive and will safely detonate it at a later time. Due to the distance between neighboring homes, no evacuations were required.
