JCSD to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative PCR test to attend athletic events

FAYETTE, MS – Jefferson County School District will require all individuals attending athletic events this academic year to show proof of vaccination or evidence of a negative PCR COVID-19 test.

The Jefferson County School Board passed the policy unanimously at its special called meeting today. The purpose of this policy is to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 while allowing student-athletes and spectators to enjoy our athletic events safely.

“We want our student-athletes to play sports this school year, but it has to be done in a manner that protects everyone,” said Adrian Hammitte, Superintendent of Jefferson County School District. “Our highest priority is the safety of our students, employees, and community. We believe that these reasonable safety measures will afford our athletes an opportunity to display their talents and protect our spectators and stakeholders.”

The requirements call for attendees to show proof that they are at least partially vaccinated or evidence of a negative PCR COVID-19 test within three (3) days of the event. Additionally, only individuals twelve (12) years of age and older will be allowed to attend athletic events. All attendees must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

The policy will go into effect on Monday, August 30, 2021.
