Oxford police launch Day 1 of Camp C.O.P.S., hold fitness and D.A.R.E. session
OXFORD, Mississippi — The Oxford Police Department said on its Facebook page that it began Day 1 of Camp C.O.P.S. this morning with a session of physical training followed by an indoor lesson on D.A.R.E.
The department posted that campers started the day with a bit of PT, then moved inside to go over the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, commonly known as D.A.R.E.
Camp C.O.P.S. is a camp-style outreach program police departments use to engage with local youth through structured activities, mentoring and instruction. D.A.R.E. is a school- and community-based program aimed at preventing drug use and teaching decision-making skills.
Officials said the events are part of the department’s broader community-policing efforts to build relationships with young residents and provide educational programming outside the classroom. The department did not provide further details in the post.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
