IRS to Delay Tax Deadline to Mid-May

The Internal Revenue Service is set to delay the April 15 tax filing deadline to sometime in May due to the rolling out of the American Rescue Plan.

Due to the plan’s inclusion of stimulus checks, changes to the child tax credit, and exemptions for people who received unemployment in 2020, many believed that a delay of the deadline was inevitable.

This will mark the second consecutive year that the tax deadline has been extended after last year’s extension to July 15.

The IRS and Treasury Department have began the distribution of stimulus checks this week, and may have reported receiving theirs today from direct deposit.
