Toppers sweep doubleheader with balanced offense, steady pitching
Blue Mountain Christian swept a doubleheader Friday at home in Blue Mountain, Miss., beating the United States Sports University Eagles 8-6 and 8-0, the school’s athletics department said. The Toppers combined timely hitting, lineup depth and consistent pitching to earn the two victories.
In the opener, Blue Mountain Christian finished with 10 hits and scored in six different innings in an 8-6 win. Kelsey Camp went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Maryn Macri had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Additional RBIs came from Anna Harrison, Aspen Teague, Karen Wisher and Laklyn Nichols, the school said.
Gail Wisher worked the full seven innings in the first game, holding off several rallies to secure the victory. The Toppers carried momentum into the nightcap, breaking the game open with a six-run third inning and completing an 8-0 shutout. Blue Mountain Christian scored eight runs on eight hits while playing error-free defense and limiting United States Sports University to few offensive chances, the school said.
The Toppers are scheduled to play Crowley’s Ridge College on Feb. 17. The sweep highlighted Blue Mountain Christian’s offensive balance and pitching depth. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
