Opinion says loss of Clarion Ledger sports writers hurts Mississippi coverage
An opinion published by Blake Levine Sports Reporter argues that the loss of sports writers at the Clarion Ledger is harmful to Mississippi, particularly young athletes who rely on local media coverage.
The commentary says Mississippi has many rural areas as well as some of the best talent in the world, making media coverage important for the state’s athletes. It argues that having fewer media members is not beneficial.
The writer acknowledges that writing is not valued as it once was and says social media creators, including the author, have contributed to that shift by providing content for free. The commentary nevertheless says the loss of local reports from television, newspapers and social media is bad for Mississippi’s children.
The commentary also notes that Mississippi still has strong media members and expresses hope that they remain in the field.
