Blue Mountain Christian drops doubleheader to Georgetown, No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University opened its 2026 season Friday with losses to Georgetown (Ky.), 8-5, in a nine-inning opener and to No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan, 15-5, in eight innings.

In the opener, Georgetown scored three runs in the first inning before Blue Mountain Christian replied in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Ross Polizzi that scored Jake Meilstrup. Georgetown added another in the second, and Blue Mountain Christian cut the lead to 4-2 in the third when Reise Thomas doubled home Meilstrup. An RBI fielder’s choice by Ethan Hirons produced another run for Blue Mountain Christian in the fourth, and an RBI double by Cody Presley in the fifth followed by a hit-by-pitch that scored Hugh Parsons in the sixth tied the game at 5-5.

Georgetown plated three unearned runs in the ninth to secure the victory. Left-hander Benji Webb started for Georgetown, allowing two earned runs in four innings while recording nine strikeouts. Jack Hearn followed with four innings of two-hit relief and five strikeouts. Ryan Murphy (0-1) took the loss despite not allowing a hit or an earned run. Meilstrup, Polizzi and Thomas each had two hits; Thomas drove in two runs.

Against Tennessee Wesleyan, the Bulldogs scored four in the first — three unearned — added two in the second and four in the fourth. Blue Mountain Christian rallied with a solo homer by Hearn in the third, a Cody Presley double that brought home Thomas in the fourth, a Meilstrup double in the fifth and a two-run homer by Thomas that briefly made it 10-5. Tennessee Wesleyan added five runs later to finish the game.

BMCU (0-2) remains in Athens and will face Georgetown and Tennessee Wesleyan again Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. CT.
