Hinds County sheriff urges residents to avoid firing guns for New Year celebration

Hinds County Sheriff Jackson Police Chief Tyree D. Jones urges residents to celebrate the New Year responsibly.

In a post on Facebook, Jones reminded residents that discharging firearms to mark the holiday is illegal and dangerous. He warned that bullets can fall back to the ground, posing risks of injury, property damage, or death.

Jones emphasized that firearms have no place in holiday festivities and encouraged people to celebrate with family and friends without risking others’ safety. He called on residents to respect neighbors and prioritize community safety as they welcome the New Year.
